Pulled Pork Sandwich

Pulled Pork Sandwich

The pulled pork sandwich is believed to have originated in the Southern states, where barbecue traditions are strong. Pulled pork is typically made by slow-cooking pork shoulder or pork butt until it is tender enough to be “pulled” apart into small pieces. The pulled pork is then typically mixed with barbecue sauce and served on a sandwich bun.

Ingredients

3-4 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

1 onion, chopped

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1 cup chicken broth

1 cup BBQ sauce

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon paprika

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon cumin

Sea salt and pepper to taste

Hamburger buns or sandwich rolls

Coleslaw (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and season it generously with salt and pepper.

Place the chopped onions and minced garlic in the bottom of a slow cooker.

Place the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions and garlic.

In a bowl, mix together the chicken broth, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, and cumin. Pour this mixture over the pork shoulder.

Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until the pork is very tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.

Skim any excess fat off the sauce in the slow cooker. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the sauce.

Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns or sandwich rolls. Top with coleslaw if desired.

Feel free to adjust the seasonings and BBQ sauce to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy!
