Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich

The Philly cheesesteak sandwich is a popular sandwich that originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is said to have been created by Pat Olivieri, a hot dog vendor, in the early 1930s. As the story goes, Olivieri decided to cook some beef on his grill one day and put it on an Italian roll, and a taxi driver passing by was intrigued by the aroma and asked for a steak sandwich. This led to the creation of the original Philly cheesesteak. The sandwich typically consists of thinly sliced steak, melted cheese (usually Cheez Whiz, provolone, or American cheese).

Ingredients

1 pound of ribeye steak, thinly sliced

4 hoagie rolls

1 large onion, thinly sliced

1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced

8 slices of provolone cheese

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Sea salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet.

Add the thinly sliced onions and green bell peppers to the skillet and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the onions and peppers from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the steak is browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.

Once the steak is cooked, return the sautéed onions and peppers to the skillet and mix everything together.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Open the hoagie rolls and place 2 slices of provolone cheese on one side of each roll.

Place the hoagie rolls on a baking sheet and heat them in the oven for a few minutes, just until the cheese is melted and the rolls are lightly toasted.Once the cheese is melted, remove the rolls from the oven and fill them with the steak, onion, and pepper mixture.

Serve and enjoy!
