Fried Zucchini Sticks

Fried Zucchini Sticks

Fried zucchini sticks, also known as fried zucchini fries, are a popular dish that likely originated in Italy, where zucchini is a commonly used vegetable in cooking. This dish is a variation of fried zucchini, which has been a part of Mediterranean cuisine for centuries.

Ingredients

2 medium zucchinis

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 eggs

2 tablespoons milk

1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs

Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Wash the zucchinis and cut off the ends. Cut each zucchini in half crosswise, and then cut each half into sticks, about 1/2 inch thick and 3 inches long.

In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

In another shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk.

Place the breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.

Dredge the zucchini sticks in the seasoned flour, then dip them into the egg mixture, and finally coat them with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

Once the oil is hot, fry the zucchini sticks in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Remove the fried zucchini sticks with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Serve the fried zucchini sticks hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
